Terminology:

Remember, research has been conducted and books have been published over a long period of time so you may need to consider various terms based on your topic or research needs.

When searching for resources you may need to consider various terms to find the information you need, but the terms used may be indicative of the period it was created. You may need to consider broadening or narrowing your search depending on your results.

For example, you might need to try:

Latin American, Hispanic, Middle America, South American, Latina/o/x, Caribbean, Mexican, Bolivian, Brazilian, Cuban, etc.

and include other aspects of your topic, such as history, war or conflict, refugees to Canada, pop culture, traditional foods, diplomatic or military history, modern or contemporary name of country, undocumented immigrants or art as examples.

As with any research topic, if you need assistance, don't hesitate to contact the friendly and informative Library Service Desk staff members for support. We are always happy to help!
