DMPs for Research With Indigenous Peoples and Communities

For research with Indigenous peoples and communities, the Tri-Agency mandates that DMPs are co-developed with the organizations or communities involved. DMPs in this context should:

  • use RDM principles and DMP formats that the community accepts,
  • be guided by and determined by the communities/organizations involved,
  • be flexible to reflect differences across Indigenous communities, and
  • recognize Indigenous data sovereignty and include options for renegotiation of the DMP.

Before you begin the process of co-developing a DMP, it will be important to familiarize yourself with some of the major documents on research with Indigenous peoples and communities that may apply to the community involved:
